Boozy Fruit

some friends call it Rumtopf, the Joy calls it Tutti Fruiti and down at the chicken ranch...well we call it Boozy Fruit. You take some rum and some brandy and bang it in a crock pot. About a quart all together but please believe me when I tell you that measurements are nothing to do with this particular recipe...

to start this season of fruit - I put in red currents and cherries with the pits taken out with the handy olive pitter...

then bang in a bunch of sugar - I put in a couple of cups but again it really doesn't matter.

then I stir it up and put in the back of the fridge. In the next month or so, I will add wild blueberries, the last of the strawberries, some peaches perhaps or almost anything from the market that looks yummy. I won't add raspberries or blackberries - too woody, pears - too soft or anything that doesn't grow around here - too ornery. If it looks to need more booze - I add about 1/4 cup and some sugar with each fruit addition.
Long about winter solstice we start ladeling it on the homemade icecream or if the kids, dog, chickens, or man are making me crazy I've been known to siphon off a bit and sip on it in my office with the door closed. hmmm....

I'm jeezly happy that you've decided to booze up the fruit again. It's the perfect combo!

Bet it tastes good on wintry Thursdays!

This looks AMAZING. Is there any heating at all, or is the crockpot just a handy storage? I bet a tiny bit warm in winter would hit EXACTLY the right spot.

nah - I don't heat it but I suppose you could. The crockpot is just to keep it in. It would be more necessary if I didn't keep it in the fridge but I don't really have a cold storage place. And to tell you the truth, I don't want to heat it because then it won't be boozy - it'll just be boozy tasting!
