Friday Challenge - think like a person who has a dog...

Dog's don't make things. Well, messes sometimes. But they are really good at loving. They are good at longing and loving. They long for your gaze, your attention, your special touch. Today's challenge is to imagine that your manuscript, your project, your painting, your offering, is a dog. A dog that you just remembered you chose and that you like to spend time with. Only you will do. Not the dog walker though she's a gem in my situation, not your partner, not even an expert with dogs - just you. You take out your manuscript, your play, your painting, your portfolio, your very special creation and give it the attention it longs for from you.  Please continue to remember that ONLY you can give it what it wants. Only you can bring out its love, its longing, its true being. And only you can protect it from those that would do it harm for it is a dumb animal, vulnerable and unable to fully protect itself. Your attention is what keeps it from going back into its wild state, your attention is what keeps it strong and healthy. No one is an expert on your creation, your dog, like you are. No one else held it when it was a pup, all warmth and need. No one else kept it by their side, took it in the car everywhere they went, made sure it had what it needed to grow big and strong. You did. So give this creation all kinds of the attention and love that ONLY you can.

What a great idea! I think I'll personify my story a little (dogify it?) and pay sole attention to it for a while. :)

As I read this, my cat is staring at me relentlessly, mewing away. It made me laugh...one way or another, I better get to that manuscript.

Mine just got a good grooming, so it is definitely time for some love! Though I'm not sure who is going to clean up the mess it made of my office...

You know, I have two dogs. I truly "get" this. And it made a huge impact. Thanks.
Enjoy your weekend.

Diane - yes, and cats won't do in this exercise - I adore cats but they don't need us - we need them... But you're a writer so I know you can imagine this!!
Elizabeth -sounds purrfect!
Liza - oh you cat people are relentless! Whatever animal gets you there and however they do...
Tartlette - you do! All us dog owners know that...
Carol - thanks and I am - I'm on a mini-in-house-writing-retreat! And it's snowing- so perfect.

And dogs love you back. The more time you spend with your manuscript, the more it will shine and make you feel wonderful.

This was a sweet post.

My latest manuscript has a dominating cat in it already. I’m afraid a dog of any breed couldn’t compete. I’ll have to save the dog for book 3.
