Word on the Street

For those of you who are Canuks and have access to major cities - you might know what Word on the Street is but for those who aren't or simply have never heard - well let me tell ya! It is a one day scrumptious festival of writers reading, book sellers selling, writers pitching, publishers talking, and booky people everywhere schmoozing and enjoying the frankly booky atmosphere. I love it. I've gone, I think, every year for a long time. This year two people I know were reading. Shandy Mitchell read from her fantastic sounding book 'Under this Unbroken Sky' a family saga type novel written about the Canadian prairies. The other was Kate Inglis reading from her soon to be released kid (and up) pirate story 'Dread Crew'. I cannot wait to read both of them. I also chatted up some very warm publishers, saw a lot of folks I haven't seen for ages and generally filled up my stroke bucket with good literary encounters. Yay!

Maybe next year I'll be reading there!

Isn't "Word on the Street" wonderful? Writers outside! On purpose! Love it.
