Ch...ch...ch... changes ... turn and face the stranger*

Well, dear readers, I know some of you know this as I've been posting about it on facebook but for you others - me and the Sweet Patootie have some big changes coming up. SP got a job in Labrador (where his folks are from and where his mother and one sister still live). He'll be teaching at the community college in Goose Bay (population 7 thousand something) and we'll be living at his mum's old house (she's in a home in Goose) in North West River. Population 540 or something like that on a fat day. And what will I be doing? I hope to keep a few of my clients with skype but who knows how many will want to do that. I would like to see if I can get a part-time gig in Sheshatshui which is the Innu village across the river from North West River. But truly - I want to write without distractions. I have all these books and poems to revise and get out and I have an idea for a non-fiction book that would be about North West River and environs so that would be perfect. Of course I plan on practicing my accordion playing, doing some knitting on those cold winter nights and taking up snowshoeing which I haven't done since ole Ottawa days.

I am always up for an adventure and I had hoped to live in North West River at some point - having fallen in love with it when I went up there a few years ago with SP. SP has an uncle that I adore who is the best story teller and we'll be happy to hang out with Ruby in the home and hear her good old stories too. Here's a photo of the front yard at the house we'll be living in. It is on the beach at Lake Melville.

The sad part is leaving family and friends. I have three grandchildren that live in Nova Scotia that I'm going to miss like the Dickens. I have the best friends anybody could ever hope to have - lovely supportive types and all of them had given me their good wishes on this venture but it is a bitter-sweet thing to say goodbye for months on end. SP leaves mid-August in the truck with some (but not much) of our worldly possessions. I will fly with Bella (who we think came from Labrador to fetch us!) in mid-October. I have stuff to wrap up. We may have someone to house-sit - I'll be back for a visit mid-winter and we'll both be back in the summer when the school is on holidays. We hope he gets more than one year but we'll see and we're going to start building next summer!

And here is the house mid-winter!

I will keep up both my blogs - this one for the writerly part of my adventure and Living the So-Called Simple Life for the rest of it.

I'm so excited for your adventure!!! Lots of big stuff, but I know you'll love it! And say... doesn't Belle have some Labrador in her? Very fitting.

All the best to you on your new adventure! I have always wanted to visit Nova Scotia for some reason...I can relate to missing your grand kids. I am not sure how far away you are going...but I am 3.5-4 hours from my grand kids. I have four grandsons.

All the best to you and I will pop back in to see how things are going...
