As we get close to Remembrance Day on Nov. 11, here in Canada, my thoughts are going to my Dad. I think I will give him a spot on Tips from the Tops this week. Were he still among us this is what he'd say if I asked him for writing advice (he was head of public relations for the Canadian Armed Forces and wrote and edited all the time). He'd say:
Tip: Apply your seat to the chair.
Top: My Daddio
How it Works in My Life: When I listen to that voice it works quite well. It cuts through all my discursive thinking and tells me what I need to hear. Writers write. Period. Other things he might add would be 'Pitter Patter Let's Fly Atter' and 'When the Going Gets Tough the Tough Get Going".
Think I'll leave it there - here is a photo of him serving his country in peacetime:

Jan - This is lovely. Thank you :-)
Always the best advice. Jan, there is a little tribute for you over at Middle Passages today.
That's great advice! My dad was a writer too, writing for several different farm newspapers in his day. He still has an old typwriter that looks just like that one sitting unused in his office. Now that it's winter, I'll be able to apply my seat to the chair more often. Met you through Liza!
