writing tuesday

No Gwen today - she's at the dentist. Awwwwwwwhhhh! I've been poking about and not getting to things but I'm going to right after I post this.
Yesterday morning I got up even earlier than usual and went off to have breakfast with Anna Quon and Gwen. Anna is a writer of creative non-fiction, fiction and poetry. She has four (or perhaps five) books of poetry published and a novel - Migration Songs . Last year I went to the annual Gala that is put on by the Nova Scotia Writers' Federation - known locally as 'the fed'. There was a silent auction to raise money and I bid on Anna's novel. It had a box of tea and something else (a cup?) and it said 'Tea with Anna'. I foolishly thought that I was going to get to meet Anna and sit down over a cuppa and have a great ole chat. Nope. Wrong. I got the book - a wonderful book - and some OK tea! Fast forward to this year and the fed  instigates a 'happy hour' on Friday's after work at a a local gathering spot. Anna says on the facebook page something about her happy hour being in the morning. Gwen jumped on that and yesterday was the first meeting of the early-bird-happy-hour-writers-gathering. We had breakfast and coffee and sat around for an hour talking writing. How nice was that!
We hope to carry on...and increase our numbers. We know we're not the only writers who like mornings best.
Getting together with people who write is important. It is one of the reasons I like the blogging community so much. It fills up our creative tanks and gets us raring to get back into the thick of it - at least it does for me.
On a similar note, I signed up yesterday for the Word on the Street Pitch the Publishers. You may remember that I pitched The Rock Walker last year and won! However, the publishers weren't interested in mysteries so it was a very phryic victory. This year I'm going to pitch True, a so-called literary novel. We'll see!
Tell me what you do to fill up your creative tank and what leaps into the unknown have you taken today?

Ooh - I was just thinking of doing PTP, but I'm terrified! Do you have any details on it yet? (e.g., which publishers?)

I'd join your writing group, but I'm more of an uber-late-night writer. If you meet really early - say 3 am - I'm in!

Hi Jodi - do it - do it! It is way fun. And no, no idea the publishers but they will be all from the Atlantic - Nimbus, Goose Lane, maybe Acorn (which does publish mysteries but weren't there last year),Pottersfield...it's a crap shoot but good practice getting your pitch down so worth it. who knows?

Glad you got to meet Anna! And, great idea for coffee and breakfast. I like mornings *so* much better...wish I lived closer to you. :)

I envy your early morning get togethers. I am too far away to make it early hour or else I would make an effort to join in.

Oh guys - wouldn't that be fun?!
It was such a pleasant time. We'll just have to do it on line. Less temptations for yummy food too.
Come on Jodi - sign-up - if you don't do it on the day, no big deal, but leap - now!

That sucks that they weren't interested in your first novel. I hope you have a lot of success with True.
