The Rock Walker - I now know that I have three minutes to pitch my book to the publishers. I've also read in the guidelines that the Word on the Street folks sent, that I could have three submission copies ready. They suggest that one could have an outline and the whole manuscript but I think that is because the Pitch the Publisher is open to every sort of work from biographies, memoirs, cookbooks, kid lit to literary fiction. I have decided to put together a submission based on a general idea of what different publishers of fiction say they want. So I will have a covering letter, a SHORT synopsis and the first fifteen pages of the novel. That will give them the prologue and the first two chapters and introduce them to all the elements that make of the story - that is the murder, the protagonist - my RCMP officer, Kitty MacDonald, and the rock walker herself, Winn Sparrow.
I plan to practice my pitch at least three or four times and I'm going to have that all written up and ready to go today as I'm going to a friend's home for dinner and know she'll be happy to hear it! I will also keep polishing the manuscript. I have just received an edit that Gwen did and so am considering her suggestions and doing some more revision work. I think this novel taught me how to write a plot but True (the wip in revision right now) has definitely taught me how to revise, so I will put some more effort into The Rock Walker. As to True, I think I will have to take a sabbatical from that revision this week because I'm not as good at juggling as some people might think. I'm very good at juggling one ball. Look out Cirque Soleil!
If anyone has any good pitch suggestions, this would be the time to tell me! I'm quite fine with speaking in public (I'm an actor and clown so...) but just anything to do with content etc...would be most helpful!

Wish I could help but pitching is not my strong point. I just know it’s supposed to tell people enough to make them ask you for more, which is a lot easier said than done. Good luck.

Is your pitch coming up this weekend? I wish you all kinds of luck. My only advice is not to memorize your pitch word for word. Just talk about your book with enthusiasm and excitement. And again, good luck!
