Friday Challenge

Are those of you with kids tuckered right out? Did you long for the little buggers to go back to school only to remember that it means you will be working your tush right off its frame organizing lunch and soccer practice and violin lessons and helping them with their trigonometry? Are you like me and feel the great good desire to make buckets of granola and proper yoghurt and maybe even give home-made health bars a try?
And perhaps even if you don't have any kids you have noticed a general 'pitter patter let's fly atter' sort of  feeling around the town. Only if you live in the Northern Hemisphere, of course, and a bit north of the equator. A proper four season kind of place that has a built-in 'let us gather nuts for the winter' vibe.  For unlike the Caribbean - one day is not the same as another.  If you don't phone up the garage to get in line for a fall tune-up and a time to put your winter tires on - if god forbid you don't have any winter tires at all - well me ducky - you're in for a nasty surprise, wha?!
In honour of this winding down of the sweet halcyon days of summer, the autumnal slide into the frozen muck of the mean November streets, I offer a bizarre and wonderful Friday Challenge for you all.
I want you to go for a walk. And not think of what you have to, should, might, or can't do. No doing at all. Just a walk to remind yourself of the most important thing. Ah, come on, you know what it is - don't make Crazy Jane spell it out for you. All you need to do is breathe in and out and notice the colours, the smells, the sounds and the feelings in your body as it moves through space. When you begin to fret and moan about the deadlines, the demands, the pressures of being on the planet at this time, just shake those thoughts out of your noggin and remember what is important.
What. Is. Important.
note: you're allowed to take a dog but not a human unless it is a baby and a very lullable baby at that...no talking, no thinking. Lose your mind and come to your senses.
There. Done.

Yes! I've been getting all sorts of advice to take a walk lately from folks...I think it's a sign! Taking a walk today and may even take the corgi with me!

Very good advise- the trees are just starting to turn, the kids are in school- the dogs are wanting attention and my brian is mush- might take more then one walk I am afraid!

I should take a walk but want to do so safely. That means a Wii Walk!

Oh look at those lovely cherries! Yes, walking is so good for clearing the cobwebs. :)

Well done. I took a walk today, with another human. But we stopped talking for a bit when we got the the sun sparking on the ocean and just breathed it in. No the same, but I'll take it for today. It is important to go alone though, and get in touch with what's inside.

You don't have to twist my arm to get me to take that kind of walk! I'm already mourning the slipping away of summer here in western Nebraska. I love fall, but the fact that its a harbinger of winter doesn't do it any favors in my eyes.

Oh, I love this, Jan! I really like to wander in the park and clear my mind. And please hold on to some of that nice weather for when I'm there!

Elizabeth - a corgi? Perfect. Such a discrete dog...won't spill the beans about anything!
Julia - yep, just the ticket.
Clarissa - huh? Is it not safe to walk where you are?
Jayne - clearing the cobwebs and finding the treasure...
Liza - sounds good. and sounds like just the right sort of person too.
K.M. - I know, I know! I hate that because really fall around here is the best but it is what is behind it sneaking up - urrghh.
Talli - it is gorgeoso and I must admit, I had an extra hour yesterday and I went to the library - got some picture books of the place I'm writing about in my wip (southwestern Alberta) and SAT ON THE WALL eating chips. Oh it was heaven and such a nice cheap thrill!

San Antonio has a short mild winter, and it's nowhere in sight or smelling distance. It's still in the 90s. But autumn will arrive sometime next month. Probably. I totally agree about the walk.

Oh, Jan-you've read my mind. Thing 1 dived into daily double swim practice in addition to school this week--in the pool by 5 am... only every other day, but it's enough... and guess who has to get her there. I love my college town! erm... except when the college students are here *shifty*

I am HAPPY to take up your challenge. I walk anyway, but am thinking leaving the iPod at home might increase the effectiveness of the exercise.

Ooh, I'm gonna take some of those cherries.

I took a short walk today. To the garden to pick tomatoes and two watermelon.

I live in a big city, so a walk is actually a rather stressful experience, and has no great benefits either. But you have reminded me to go for a run- need to get rid of this cold first, though, can hardly breathe.
Incidentally, Clarissa is in Mexico, and there was shooting a couple of meters from her house a few days back. I do not think walking is safe for her.
