I'm back from Ottawa. What an intense but good trip. Aunt Alice's funeral was good - she was properly seen off and it was very good to spend time with my sister and my cousins. I also spent time with my son, Cal and my brother-in-law, Richard. I visited a home I lived in when I was a hippy in 1974 with two tiny kids. It was weird and wonderful to walk down that street and stand in front of the house and think of all that happened there. Yah, I know - nostalgia is such a ridiculous feeling - but...there are ghosts there. Ghosts of those people who are all so gone, some for real and some just have become something else. A good thing no doubt. The whole trip was that. Now I'm going to bed and I'll spend the whole entire weekend trying to catch up to Nanowrimo or maybe I won't.

Funerals have a way of bringing memories to the forefront. I'm sorry for your loss. But weird and wonderful sounds interesting. I'd like to know more about your hippy days...especially since we're kindred spirits? Maybe there's a story there you could share? Glad you're home safe and sound.

Welcome home, Jan! It's a proper thing to take that long look at where you've been and see it in the light it deserves! And I bet your aunt would have loved the idea of you hanging with your sister, your cousins, your son AND the fabulous Richard! Happy novel writing.
