F is for ferocious

It's the A to Zed Challenge! I'll be posting the first half of the month from Ottawa where I'm staying with my youngest and his partner and their newest - a little guy who was 12 days old on the 1st of April.  Yay!

Theme? Writing and Life is what comes to me... how to balance the writing life with the other tugs you may have...

F is for Ferocious

Yep, ferocious is what you need to be to keep everything working. Not aggressive but ferocious. When I think of the word I think of mother lions protecting their cubs. I'm the lioness and I am protecting my balance. I must be adept at saying no when asked to do something that doesn't fall within my area of interests. A lioness doesn't need to yell and carry on when her cub is threatened - she needs to make but a small growl. So do I! First I have to look at what it is - will it enhance my purpose - to wake up myself and others - or deplete my energy in trade for someone thinking well of me or to boost my ego? Before being ferocious I must be mindful but hey, ferocious comes first in this abecedaria. Once I've determined it is one of the latter reasons I must say no in a way that will not require more energy than to do what is being asked. Get it? It is all about energy. I said yes to doing the A to Zed Challenge because it keeps my writing hand in, it connects me with people who I support and who support me in this online community and I get to meet some new energizing folks as well. All good. I said no to someone the other day - not going to say what it was - just that it was very gratifying to be asked but when I looked at the energy to do what was asked and the ultimate purpose of it - not for me. So, when I say no after making an internal inquiry my no is firm, kind but brooking no changes.

How about you? How do you protect your precious time?
I always say yes to a hot bath after a long long walk!

Jan - What a great choice! Yes! We need to be ferocious about our stories and about our selves. As you say, it's not really aggression; it's using energy wisely.

I need to do better with this, Jan! I've gotten very good at saying no in email, somewhat better at saying no on the phone, but poor at it in person. And I do need to protect my writing time ferociously.

I need to say no when I try to convince myself it's okay to just sit on the couch watching TV instead of editing my latest chapter. :P
