C is for Courage

It's the A to Zed Challenge! I'll be posting the first half of the month from Ottawa where I'm staying with my youngest and his partner and their newest - a little guy who is 12 days old today! Yay!

Theme? Writing and Life is what comes to me... how to balance the writing life with the other tugs you may have...

The ABCDEaria of the Writing Life -

C is for Courage

Courage! The root of this word refers to the heart - be of good heart! Easy to say, difficult to accomplish. Courage comes from another c word - confidence. Having set your path stay to it. It doesn't mean that you won't change with the need to but don't veer off at every obstacle. When balancing your writing with your other disciplines (householder, day job, parent, etc...) have courage that you have chosen a path well worth traveling. Of course I will be discouraged (see how that word arises from courage?) - I will at times lose heart but really it won't be lost. I must remind myself that my true heart, my true courage, cannot be lost as it is based in my desire to wake up and be of benefit to all sentient beings so maybe I set it aside from time to time - but lost? Impossible. I bend down in the scary dark and find it waiting for me. Like a cloak that warms me I pick it up and wrap myself in courage and then I put one foot after another.

Jan - Such a good reminder! Courage is really believing in yourself. As you say, it doesn't mean you don't make changes and so on, but it's so important to be true to yourself. I love it!

And so hard to not constantly second guess yourself. Something I see with these new parents I am with!

You are so poetic! I checked your Reflections on Rumi blog and was sad to see you hadn't kept it up. I also checked the other blog and was trying to figure out where you live--NE Canada?

People are capable of amazing courage when faced with a challenge. I never realized how much courage writers needed until I was already hooked on the process.
