For the month of April I will be taking part in the Blogging from A to Z Challenge. I will be using two tools besides my trusty computer - my imagination and my dictionary -The American Heritage Dictionary, Second College Edition.. I will turn to the letter of the day, flip the pages and let my fickle finger of fate find the word. Then I'll write - might be a story, might be a rant, might be a poem. Who knows! Do let me know what you think. To go to the list of other participants go here *** I'm number 1414 - that's a heck of a lot of blogs and there are many more signed up below me. If you make a comment I will do my darnedest to check out your blog and comment. Spread the love around!
Frog - n. 1. Any of numerous tailless, chiefly aquatic amphibians of the order Salientia and esp. of the aquatic ambibians of the order Salientia, and esp. of the family Ranidae, characteristically having a smooth, moist skin, webbed feet, and long hind legs adapted for leaping.
Oh you crazy companions of my childhood -
how many of you, with your leopard spots and
solemn eyes, did I entreat to join me for a day, an hour,
even just a moment?
When I consider the possibility of a heaven you are all there,
waiting for me to apologize for my unbridled passion,
clumsy squeezing hands,
misguided attempts to own you.
You, dear frogs, taught me all I needed to know about
love and autonomy and how to straddle that
razor blade of want with compassion.
Too late for your health, all the same, I come
knees to ask your blessing.

Jan - What a lovely celebration of frogs. Their music is always associated (for me anyway) with summer days and nights. This is just beautiful.
Good Poem! I love that you started at childhood as an explorer and grow into a repentant adult apologizing for your past.

Nice poem. I always like frogs, too.
liked ... forgot the d
Aww, this is such a cute poem. I admit I was afraid of frogs when I was a kid but I have no clue why, it seems so silly now.
I don't care much for frogs but you made the study of frogs interesting.
I'm a frog lover since childhood. I used to chase them along the river bank. Sad thing is that many of them have disappeared with changes in the environment.
A beautifully written apology to a frog. Did you ever kiss them. Their bodies are covered with a hallucinogenic substance and you may have seen the odd Prince Charming!

The story of the Frog Prince was one of my favorite fairy tails. I love the poem. As a child I had horny toads for pets which might explain why they are an endangered species these days.
