this crazy week

the sun is shining and I'm off to work soon but I was reflecting on this crazy crazy week -here is what was celebrated by myself and others and what world news happened and what private milestones occurred - all in six days.

Monday - Tibetan New Year (Losar) - most important holy and secular holiday of Tibetan Buddhists (like me)
Also day that Pope resigned - a major world event unheard of in 600 years. Which some of us non-Catholics and Catholics alike may be celebrating.

Tuesday - Shrove Tuesday - run-up to Lent and called Pancake Tuesday by zillions of kids who think it is somehow a treat to eat pancakes for supper!

Wednesday - Ash Wednesday and the day that our dear dog died.

Thursday - Valentine's Day

Friday - a meteorite hits Russia. The anniversary of the terrible tragedy of the sinking of Ocean Ranger killing 84 people.

Saturday - Gomish celebrated by a small group of accolades - this is a shifting holiday more commonly held between Christmas and New Years but this year celebrated on Feb.16. I for one can't wait to partake of this ritual which involves eating wondrously good food, trying out new and old cocktails, playing board-games and mostly be with a group who knows all the old stories but wants to hear them again and again. For more on this holiday you can see references to it in this and my other blog (Living the so-called Simple Life).

Gomish sounds like the best holiday ever! Did you just lose your dog? I'm so sorry if so...

Jan - What an intense week it's been! Sounds to me as though Gonnish is exactly what the doctor orders to deal with the ups and downs.
