Poetry Rocks

I'm writing poetry - at least one a week for my class and then many more on  my fb page. I don't let them wander. The ones on my fb page are because I want to be on the darn thing (reasons: kids - mine by birth, marriage, friendship etc ... or the children of clients, or themselves being clients - I have to know how it works) and I didn't want to be on it in a regular old way. So ... I post a photo and a poem every so often. For two months in the summer I wrote one a day - 60 for being 60. It was lots of fun.

Yesterday, for my class, I wrote a sonnet. I wrote one many years ago for my undergraduate English class - we didn't have to, I just wanted to. Same thing now - it is like the lace I knit - a mathematical puzzle that creates some beauty if you follow the form just enough. It is that 'just enough' that is tricky.

I had a wonderful writing group experience last week and tomorrow I'll get to working on some changes inspired by that.

There ya go - that's me in the world of writing. Howzaboutyou?

I admire and envy people who can write poetry. I've written only a few I thought were worth a hoot. And a sonnet? Cool!

I remember my daughter's sonnet assignment a few years back. It was hard! Good for you Jan!

Jan - I love poetry. I've never been able to master the genre myself, but I sooooooo respect and admire people who do.

I love writing poetry - there's something so satisfying about it. Sonnets are great because you have structure already in place.

I have been known to write poetry to cope... all too bad to share... or to be really silly--some of those are worthy. But I'm just editing at the mo... for one more week. Then I will begin Mean and Demeaned: the first in the Pleides series.
