Dang - it's a nice day!

And you know what that means! I have five thousand left (or so I imagine) for my first draft of Bright Angel. But as the dear guy said to me this morning "which five thousand?"  He is so smart. It is, of course, the five thousand that will include the climax of the book. So it is potentially a five thousand that upon completing will knock ten thousand or so other words off the count. I saw the ending of my novel but it is getting hard to get to that ending. I will have to see if my story, my characters, will allow a change in the ending - or if, in fact, the reason I haven't gotten there is because it was the wrong one all along.

I wouldn't be a bit surprised if this is completely confusing to you. It is to me and I really can't waste my few bits of figuring brain cells on trying to explain it better. I just saw Desi talking to Lucy, his hands on his hips - that smooth band leader look of him, while he tells his ditsy hilarious wife "Luchee, you got a lotta splanning to do!"

We went out to see the Tall Ships this morning. I saw them the other day with my pal Marion but this morning I went with my fella and the step-dot. It is always fun to be on the waterfront when things are going crazy down there. So many dogs! I wonder how many of them woke up this morning hoping against hope that the folks they live with would take them to see the tall ships?

I'm going down again this evening. There is a special concert featuring lots of wondrous musicians and our symphony - what's on the bill? The 2012 overture!!! And the 1812 one with real cannons and all the church bells in Halifax. And there's more!!! Fireworks!!! Oh, I cannot wait. I'm meeting a pal and we'll eat somewhere and then go.

But this afternoon, while the man and his dot are sailing, I want to write. So damn you sun and gorgeous breezy weather.

Hey this woman came up to me at the waterfront when I was with my fam and said "You look wonderful - beautiful - you hippie mama you!" She was about my age, maybe a bit older, and said -"I always wanted to be a hippie but my husband was in the military!!!" Ha. How nice it was to be recognized.

It's great that the ending of your book is in sight. It's a good feeling isn't it? Hope you have a nice evening...

Jan - I love it that you allow your characters to help you figure out if the ending was what you had originally planned. I'm sure that Bright Angel is going to be so much more vibrant because it's organic. I love it!

Hi Pat - it is a wonderful feeling - also terrifying like all wonderful things - falling in love, seeing your children's faces the first time (and then your grandchildren's) - all good and terrifying!

Hi Margot - thankyou! You so understand me. One thing that happened yesterday as I wrote for a bit was that I gave myself permission to get to 80 thousand this weekend without figuring out the ending. I still want to end up with a novel of about that size but I know so much will come and go in my revisions. That calmed me down some...

Thanks Pat! I appreciate that. I'm in a tizzy finishing this first draft but I'll be by for sure.
