- I will finish my one-page synopsis of True - by March 11 - finished it April 24th
- I will write four query letters - each geared to the agents I've researched - by March 14th - I sent one query out on April 24th - will do another today...
- I will send off four packages to four agents - My March 18 - as I said - sent one off April 24th
- I will send one to two packages a month until I hear back from someone. These other packages will be to either agents in the States or to Canadian publishers. - I've sent one in April and guess my second will be today in May!
- I will continue to work on this...I do have a list of four more agents in Canada that I want to send too. We'll see.
- I will begin my revision process with TRW by writing a Hero's Journey Synopsis - by April 1st. - um...May 1st?
- Using the above as my template I will begin a big picture revision of TRW - I will continue to revise going through all the steps - structure, clarity, setting, characters, dialogue, themes, rhythm, language - until I have something to send to the person who edits for me - finish by June 1st - probably not but I'll give it a try...
- When I get it back I will incorporate changes
- I will create query packages for publishers that I've researched - synopsis, bio, letter, etc...because this is a mystery I will probably avoid trying for an agent. - by July 1st - maybe?
The one-page synopsis took me about thirteen times longer than I thought it would. I did it about a gazillion times and just couldn't seem to nail it. Then I went to Florida for ten days with five broads and fuhgedaboudid! Didn't put one thought towards it. Came back and on my first Tuesday home with Gwen - got it just the way I wanted it. ARGGGHH! I think that I was very wary of sending this kid out too soon. I've done that before and I wanted to hold on to this one as long as possible.
What else? I've been working (when here) like a mad woman. Lots and lots of clients and teaching gigs and just putting in the hours. It does make a difference though I would wish it didn't. I'm going to see how I can remedy that in the upcoming months. Trouble is that we're putting our dear house on the market next month and I'm in clearing out and sparking up mode. I've got boxes and boxes of books to donate somewhere - can't sell them anymore. And you know - life. The fella has been away and the step-dot and I cooked vegetarian delights every night (he's a carnivore and we wanted to explore the gentle side). I got caught up on season four of Mad Men and like that...
So expect some movement around here and I'll tell you what my plan and what my reality is (tip of the hat to Mary over at Giggles & Guns, who is also working with her mind about such things...

Jan - How often it is that life gets in the way of, well, life. That's why I think it's important to be kind to ourselves when we don't meet the writing goals we set. Things happen and I don't think it's healthy to let other sides of ourselves shrivel up. Not that you don't try to get it all done, but it's about balance. And Mad Men ;-)
Awww--some stuff just takes longer, eh? And some stuff keeps barking back at you, no matter HOW many times you think you're done already. You did good.
And I'm THRILLED you are going to do BuNoWriMo! (it actually makes a pretty motivating editing deadline--gotta be done by June 1, so you are free to write)--And YES, you can continue on something, so long as you've got 50K left to go. My book has half a dozen scenes written (though I'm not sure all of them will make the book)
I know what you mean about life getting in the way, but you should be proud of the stuff you've gotten done! You're moving in the direction of your goals and that's awesome. Go you!
Ah yes, the synopsis. I write mine a gazillion times too.
It always amazes me how writing down goals works like magic. I'm such a huge believer in goal-setting and accountability.
