I just watched the state funeral of Jack Layton. Something might be happening here. Here in Canada. Not sure...can't really write about it now. I need to process it, but I think something is definitely going on. Just in case you weren't watching, you should know that the priest talked about his husband; Stephen Lewis had about twelve standing ovations DURING the eulogy; and the music included Stephen Page (Barenaked Ladies) singing
Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen; Lorraine Segato singing
Rise Up, Rise Up; and Julie Michelle leading a choir and ALL the mourners in a rousing version of
Get Together (come on people smile on your brother) by The Youngbloods. All the current and past political leaders were there and, well...something happened. It really really did.
I didn't put a challenge in today. I would just like you to take a moment and consider the last words of Jack's letter to Canadians-
My friends, love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic. And we’ll change the world.

Thank God. It's about time we kicked out the evil SH. You know who I mean! Jack will be missed - he was a great man.

I'm Australian but a Canadian friend of mine talked with great passion about Jack Layton and the letter he left behind. I read it and found it very moving indeed. He was a good guy.
