Diligence

It's writing tuesday with Gwen and I'm on my third tomato. After hearing from the gang yesterday, I firmed up my plan. And thanks to Carol Kilgore from Under the Tiki Hut - I decided to change things up. So, I'm working on The Rock Walker and it is going OK. I've finally found a way to work with the structural problems. It changes the time-line slightly but enough to have to re-jig every damn chapter but hey!

Here's the thing - it is diligence. It is aligned with discipline but slightly different as it implies a rolling up of one's sleeves and a steely determined look on one's brow. I must be diligent if I'm going to get through my plan. I can't lie down on my fainting couch (what I've decided to call the bed in my office) and wave a fan about my face sighing and eating bonbons. I have to sit here and work it out even though it is hard and my brain hurts and I wish I could be discovered somehow and swept off to fame's doorway. But no. I need to recall - cause, condition and effect - which might be 'decide I want a garden (a published novel) plant the seeds (write the words) weed the garden (edit), replant what is needed (revise) water (send out queries) and then if I keep doing that diligently - I will have a harvest. Yes, I will.

Back to work with me. Thanks all who commented and let's keep up this discussion on planning, implementing and harvesting, shall we?

Ugh, tell me about it. I'm in the weeding and replanting stage and it's doing my head in! Here's to diligence...

Sending you more positive energy for your diligence. Love your comparison to gardening.

Sounds good. If this post were to receive a letter grade then it would have to be a "D" where "D" is a really good grade. Diligence, discipline, determination-- that works when applied.

Man, but I HATE weeding! And to water it, am I allowed to play in the sprinkler? I am so all about bending the rules... Then again I suppose that fits, too... instead of one marathon weeding, I do several passes, looking for different things each time. Though that big stuff is still big stuff...

I love totend pot plants but as for gardening I have not got green fingers, however positive a person I am.

Talli – doing your head in? Egg-frickin-zacktly!
Mason – thanks – gardening is my all time favorite metaphor for everything. Do you remember that Peter Sellers movie where he plays ‘Chauncy Gardener’?
Lee – the three D’s – I like it. And I never minded getting D’s anyway - ;)
Tartlette– me too – I can’t quite tell what is a weed and what is…oh rats – I pulled out the columbine!!!
Yvonne- yep, I’m not a positive person and I still don’t really have green fingers – more like rusty ones!

One little change can cause so many ripples. It's like trying to smooth all the wrinkles on a bed sheet.

Diane - yes - exactly. Or like trying to untangle a big ball of wool. Where's the end? Where's the beginning? Where did it get tangled?

I love the analogy to gardening. I'm going to have to keep that in mind, it's perfect and very inspiring.

Here's to diligence! I need to find some myself, lately I'm spending way too much time fanning myself on the fainting couch. :D
