Time For a Break

A couple of things have made me decide it is time for a blog break.

I'm deeply tired for one. Between worrying about various things, the damn election in Canada and the A to Zed, I need to sleep more. Or rest more.

I'm sad - I watched the crazy election last night and the good thing is that NDP formed the opposition government for the first time ever. Down side - the Harperatives gained their first majority. Ughh. And I'm sad because I can't phone my dad up and get into a real fun argument with him about the election. Something I would've done as a matter of course, this morning. He would have been apopletic at both outcomes - not happy with the NDP - hating Harper but wanting the Conservatives to get a majority - ah well. A discussion I can only have in my head.

I'm discouraged - I received a very difficult to take rejection yesterday from a contest I had high hopes for. Usually, with a rejection, I suffer for an hour or two, or an evening, but this was different in many ways. I'm going to spare you my whinging but it has taken a chunk out of my confidence. I know, even in the midst of this, that I will get back on my writing horse but I don't think my recovery includes being cheerful on my blog.

So, not sure how long -probably a week, maybe two. Later...

Can't say I blame you for wanting that rest. This morning I've woven still feeling tired thinking similar thoughts.
Politics are like a train wreck, but still it's hard not to be interested/concerned, but is it worth it.
Blog events like A to Z are more under my control, but they can be tiring.
Just relaxing and doing only what I want sounds good, but it can't always be exactly like that.

Being cheerful is not absolultely necessary, but being positive is advisable. Depends on what kind of company you want to keep and what you want to contribute to the world.

I'm so sorry to hear about all the stress. So many difficult things to process at once.

Even though we've only just met, I can tell from the passion in your words that you're an amazing person and writer. You can do this, and I hope your heart confirms that for you soon <3

*hugs Jan* Those spots where you look for the missing loved ones are such hard milestones to pass (and surely this compounds the rejection reaction). If you need to vent, whine or just talk, you know where to find me!

Totally understandable to need a break, but set a time on it--this sounds like a cluster of things that might bury you if you don't have an escape plan. You need to feel what you feel... but when you are in the midst of it, might be hard to see when it is time to then pull out of it.

Life can definitely overwhelm us at times. Sometimes we make choices that contribute to our distress; sometimes outside forces undo us.

I understand the rejection. I'm usually a trooper with it, but I remember one "bad" time.

Take care. Rest. We'll look forward to seeing you again when you're ready!

A rest is good, but don't stay away too long from those who can lift your spirits!

I certainly understand your need for a break, and luckily us bloggers have that advantage and the privilege to do so. I'm thinking of taking one myself- if just a few days a week. Maybe go with M-W-F posts or some kind of regular schedule (other than daily).
We will miss you, but we will all be here when you return- rested and ready to share your thoughts and wisdom with us again. Have fun and enjoy yourself!

Namaste, Jan. Even though I don't comment as often as I should, I always enjoy seeing what you're up to. Rejections stink. No way around it. I'm sending light and love your way!

It is perfectly all right to take a break when you need it, and it is perfectly all right to whine when a rejection smarts. At least blogging about your work means you are among people who know what you are talking about.

Take care - and your blog friends will be there when you return!

I'm sorry about your rejection, Jan. I remember getting a couple that made me feel almost sick. Just keep on plugging. My agent rejected me at least once before taking me on. :)

Hope you'll have a good blog break!

Jan, what an amazing feat. The A to Zed was an inspiring gift to your followers! You kept me in awe the entire month. I'm sorry about the rejection. Writing life can be so lonely and thankless and discouraging, despite being surrounded by a happy home and fun blog friends. Peace for your break, sprouts for your writing garden, warm breezes just because you're one of my dear ones.

Hang in there, friend. Have a good break.

A Canadian friend of mine mentioned on facebook that he was planning to rip up his passport he was so disgusted with the election. I'm so sorry it's been so hard!

I'm gonna leave you a ginger martini here as well. And a hug. I can't say it much better than Lee did, though - that cheerful isn't necessary, but positive is advisable. I hope you'll feel up to both eventually, but in the meantime I think you should just focus on what's right for you right now. I'm glad you realize that your writing is still important, despite disappointments. We're in this together, my friend.
