oh bad, very very bad...

Dear Faithful Readers,
Yesterday, after I wrote my witty weather words, I was struck down by two viruses. Yes, my dearios - two. One was in my body. I wrote my thousand words on Earth Bound and started doing some work for a training program I`m involved with when I just didn`t feel good. I felt bad...very, very bad. When I went to close down the computer as it was too noisy (part of the bad feeling I think) for me to have a short nap on my office bed, a pop-up arose from supposedly microsoft telling me that something was wrong. I didn`t do much - I never believe those things but usually Sweet Patootie is around to fend off the bastards. He was at work so when it flashed me all this fancy stuff pretending to fix my computer, I was of two minds. One mind (my, as it happens, correct mind) said `this is bull-pucky - way too flashy to be true` but my going down into flu mind said, ``what the heck, let`s just watch the pretty animation`` . My true mind checked in long enough to NOT buy the saving program   pay the ransom and I shut the computer down. Then I crashed for hours and lots of other irritating things happened - like EVERY single thing that I`d organized for taking the kids and us to the boat club thingy went to dust - kids waiting, no cell phones, late SP, who said he`d stay home with me as I thrashed around on the bed (by this time I was upstairs moaning in a NOT good way). I said `Please pickup the kids and take them to the stooopid thingy or I`ll die`and he did. Then he came home and tried to rid my computer of this virus. He told me this morning as I lay thrashing and moaning, that he`d done it but when I came down here to cancel meetings - my email works, my internet works but I have NO DOCUMENTS - no gazillion versions of novels, no photos, no nothing. Now, I have a separate hard drive that I store important stuff on and most of my novels`most recent revisions are on it but not the thousand words I wrote yesterday...in fact it could be a few thousand words out of date. I`m devastated. Now I`m going back to bed and I pray that SP will be able to find my files. I`ll know tonight.
This is a warning! Send your precious word files (and pic files) to someone or someones - put it on a disk, back them up.
My life is flashing before my eyes and it is only that I feel so cruddy that I`m not wailing.
love,
me

Oh, no, Jan! That is HORRIBLE! I hope you are feeling better today, and I REALLY REALLY hope SP can salvage your documents. This is totally my nightmare, as I am back about regular back up.

I am so, so sorry, Jan! It does sound like you feel dreadful, physically, and then everything else on top of that.

It is so awful to lose so many words. I've had a few times when this has happened to me. I keep reminding myself, as in when the power when off for a few minutes yesterday, to keep hitting the save button as I edit/compose. But now, after this dreadful experience you've had, I'm thinking I should set it up so the SAVE goes directly to the flash drive, just in case my computer crashes. Fortunately, so far I've never had a computer crash. That's one lucky thing for me. But one should always be prepared!

I do hope you soon feel better; that the sky will soon look blue again for you!!

Feel better soon! I've had this virus, (the computer one), a couple of times and it is a bitch to get rid of...that's really horrible..I thought I lost all my pictures, and most importantly, a voicemail message from my dead brother, but fortunately everything was able to be retrieved by an absolute computer whiz I know...it is possible for your work to be retrieved..I wish I knew how to do it or I'd tell you..good luck Jan!

How utterly appalling, Jan! Here's hoping those documents will reappear as quickly as your virus disappears! I suggest spending some time with your chickens. It can't hurt.

Oh no! I got zapped by that once. Received a stern lecture from my husband, too. And I'm paranoid - I have everything backed up on two thumb drives and two external hard drives.

Oh, you poor thing. I hope you get well soon.

Meanwhile, I'm going to get busy right now and back up everything onto the new handy-dandy backup drive I bought a good month ago.

I'm sure your words are there *somewhere* and I hope they get recovered. I've had a tummy bug myself the last couple of days (ick), but am better now and hope you'll be better soon!!

I will keep my fingers crossed that your files will be found...and that you recover in all ways that matter very soon.
