Things quickly go awry

Things quickly go awry don't they. Best laid plans and all. Today I'm driving Sweet Patootie to the airport. He's off to his mum's in Labrador. She turns 87 today. All four siblings are gathering to spend five days in her home with her as she will be going into a home this month. It will be a bittersweet time I'm sure.

That means I don't have time to meditate but think I can do it at work. I'll bring my Rumi.
I also won't walk the dog because his line broke last night and he's still walking himself which means I didn't sleep well or much at all.

I won't get home until about 7:30 and I can't write at work because I'll be busy and because I'm entering changes in the computer. I'm pretty far along though and did lots of work the last two days so perhaps I don't need to feel bad about this.

Perhaps I'll print out The Rock Walker and start the process on that of polishing. Yes, I could do that.

The thing is about all these disciplines and goals is that I still have to stay flexible and not freak when things change. I have a family, I'm a householder as we Buddhists say. I don't live in a cave or a precious nunnery or go to grad school or anything else that is single focussed.  And that isn't likely to change soon. So step by step I'll make my way...

I got asked to join an online critique and support group yesterday. I'm pretty chuffed - it is a small one with fabulous people in it so I feel special.

Now I'm going to count my blessings so I can feel full instead of anxious:

1) I've got money in my pocket.
2) I like the color of my hair
3)I've got a friend who loves me.

4) Got a house, I've got a car
5) I've had a good mother and her voice is what keeps me here.
Feet on ground, heart in hand
Facing forward be yourself

6)I've got a good father
And his strength is what makes me cry
Feet on ground, heart in hand
Facing forward be yourself
Be Yourself, Be Yourself...

Thanks to Jann Arden for this - her lyrics a tiny bit adapted (as my mum isn't alive) for Good Mother. All true.

Be happy with progress in your writing, not perfection!
