Today I went out the bay - please check my site Living the Complicated Simple Life for some photos and racketing on about summer days.
While Sweet Patootie and I were drinking coffee and eating a delicious repast on our tiny island in Rogue's Roost, two men came roaring in on some dopey motorized goof boat. Their motor was so loud they had to shout. What people never get is that if they are shouting to get their voices heard to each other over a motor near them - we can hear their entire conversation. I would say that buddy, who was doing most of the shouting, was either freshly loaded or still drunk from the night before. Tell-tale signs? The incessant repetition of details that didn't matter the first time he told them let alone the fifth.
Having said all this in my superior intellectually snobby way I must add that the story did sound rather interesting - the bones of it, as it were, not the embellishments. It would appear that buddy had a very interesting car accident which left him with both airbags deployed teetering on top of his grandfather's grave! He had been tearing around on the Prospect Bay Rd and gone off it on a curve and there he was - met with his grandfather's mortality while tinkering with his own. I am quite sure that I have this right because he repeated it several times. He felt quite bad that he'd ended up - well not ended up obviously - but ended up his evening in such a predicament. It would seem he then left the car and made his way home. He probably still lives at home being only thirty-eight or so and his parents still feeding him cheese and probably paying his insurance. Just guessing at this...but it is an educated guess. He then proceeded to phone the cops and tell them that his car had been stolen. Brilliant, eh? Completely bloody brilliant! Of course, we and several other sailors who were having a quiet Sunday morning at the Roost now know this. Hm mm...
nah. I really couldn't be bothered.
I don't mind using his story though. Not a bit.
And just in case you don't head over to my other site I'm going to post a picture of the porpoises we saw. Cor blimey it was a treat!
Oh by the way - Alan Orloff over at A Million Blogging Monkeys is away so I thought we'd have a party at his blog! Whadya say - come on over and I'll bring my record collection. If you do stop by to party don't forget to tell Alan what you did on his blog while he was 'holidaying'! I spilled a drink on his virtual couch...

We could really wreck some havoc on Alan's blog... and then blame the monkeys.
Oh Alex, that's the spirit I was hoping for! Yay - party at Alan's...those monkeys could do anything - they could raid his spirit cabinet or fall asleep on his bed!
I just love listening to other people's conversations:) It's a great way to get some "realistic" dialogue into your story!
Oh how I miss home! :)
*snickersnort* I love these people watching details. Some people are just asking for it, aren't they? To be mocked on somebody's blog, I mean... teehee And I still love your porpoises...
Cool porpoises.
I just love overhearing conversations, specially ones as interesting as this one seems to be.
That's a fantastic story. I would love to figure out how the details managed such a random happening. When you write it, be sure to point us in the right direction :)
Eavesdropping is one of my favorite things to do – I consider it an essential part of a writer’s job. This guy sounds like a real winner and a perfect character for a novel!
So sorry I missed the party!
"...which left him with both airbags deployed teetering on top of his grandfather's grave!"
I laughed out loud for real.
Hope the party at Alan Orloff's blog was a huge success :)
