changing how I do things is something that comes pretty easily to me. I thrive on change and like the puzzle of how I can get myself to do what I want to do. So my main New Year Solution was to do two out of the same three things a day. I've used that device for many years now - it works. My rebel child doesn't feel too hemmed in and my Persnickety child gets satisfied too. So, no need to change that. The three things have been somewhat the same for years too. They are Write, Meditate, Walk. They make me feel good when I keep at it and after a small while in any of these disciplines I hunger to do them so...the problem? It is with the writing arm. I shared my dilemnas a few posts ago - lots of works in progress, monkey mind about getting on with one of them, etc... The thing is, since I did the month of writing madness that is NaNoWriMo - I don't want to add MORE words to my mystery. It is a freaking mess of words now. So while sitting, when I was supposed to be labelling my thoughts and going back to my breath, I had a thought! My new writing part of the trio is that I will work on my writing for two hours or do one thousand words. Seems simple enough doesn't it? The thing is, even a freedom fighter like myself can get caught up in 'shoulds' and 'have tos'. Stephen King told me to write a thousand words a day so I thought that was what I have to do. I wrote way more than that in November and now I need to not write - I need to sort, organize, figure out the structure, the fictive dream has to not jar the reader into wakefulness when she reads something in the wrong place or clearly impossible.

I love that you're listening to your own inner self and trying to discover what is best for you (not Stephen King or anyone else).

I like change as well. I think I thrive on chaos...

Find what works best for you. "Should have"s will drive you crazed and are a direct road to the House of Guilt in my experience.

I don't think I could keep up with a thousand words a day, every single day. Sometimes I write more than that, sometimes I write way, way less. Either way, I will not get bogged down with some other author's rhythm. Change can be good, shake it up!

It sounds like you know what works for you! Good luck with revision and sorting.

Thanks all you gals! Yep, I'm happy with this and no time for anything today but to get at it!
See you tomorrow...

I think maybe it helps to include the sorting, editing, rewriting, plotting AS WRITING, because it is. Sure, it makes a mad mess of word counts if it's tallying you are up to, but in terms of TIME, you should be fine.

I am filling in NaNo holes right now during my 'writing time' which is half editing, half writing scenes that I noted with a sentence that really are between 1 and several pages... actually the current one has ended up almost 15...) but I figure it is still writing.
